Who Can Run?
Active and Academic members in good standing are eligible for this year’s election cycle.
Eligibility Criteria
- Active or Academic member
- Dues paid through September 26, 2025
- Must meet SEJ’s membership requirements

What It Means To Serve
Serving on the SEJ board is your opportunity to guide SEJ’s future, contribute ideas, and your expertise and perspectives from the field or classroom. You’ll play an integral role in driving SEJ initiatives, and advocating for fellow members and our industry in this critical moment for environmental journalism.

How To Run
- Complete and submit your Intent to Run form and prepare a Candidate Statement (max. 500 words) that includes:
- Your biographical information
- Your vision for SEJ
- Your purpose for running
- Optional: Highlight specific areas of SEJ where you have experience, as we seek board members with expertise in fundraising, membership, DEI and programs, including our annual conference.
- Share a photo of yourself
You can also submit a Candidate Nomination form to recommend and encourage a fellow SEJ member to run.
To access the Intent to Run and Candidate Nomination forms, you must be a current SEJ member and access your SEJ account.
Important Dates
Mark your calendars for the key dates in the 2025 SEJ Board election timeline and process:
- Aug. 25: Call for Candidates
- Sept. 26: Deadline to Submit Intent to Run and Meet Eligibility
- Oct. 6: Ballots Distributed and Deadline for Voting Eligibility
- Nov. 8: Annual Member Meeting & Voting Ends
