Who runs SEJ's elections?
SEJ’s elections are overseen by an independent, four-member Elections Committee, with a board liaison as a fifth voting member. The committee ensures that every election is fair, secure and in compliance with SEJ bylaws and policies.

What are the key dates?
- Aug. 25: Call for Candidates
- Sept. 26: Deadline to Submit Intent to Run and Meet Eligibility
- Oct. 6: Ballots Distributed and Deadline for Voting Eligibility
- Nov. 8: Annual Member Meeting & Voting Ends
Running for SEJ Board
Who can run?
Any SEJ member in the Active or Academic category and in good standing. In 2025, two Active seats and one Academic seat are open.
What do I need to submit to run?
- Complete and submit your Intent to Run form and prepare a Candidate Statement (max. 500 words) that includes:
- Biographical information
- Vision for SEJ
- Purpose for running
- Optional: Highlight specific areas of SEJ where you have experience, as we seek board members with expertise in fundraising, membership, DEI and programs, including our annual conference.
- Submit a professional headshot
To access the Intent to Run form, you must be a current SEJ member and access your SEJ account.
How long is a board term?
Board members serve a three-year term, starting from when they're elected.
Voting for SEJ Board
How are board members elected?
Eligible members cast ballots online through AssociationVoting, a secure software platform vetted and approved by the SEJ Board. All votes are anonymous, and results are certified by the Elections Committee.
When does the election happen?
Ballots go out on October 6, 2025. Voting closes at the Annual Membership Meeting on November 8, 2025.
Who can vote for the SEJ Board?
Any SEJ member in good standing who meets the October 6 eligibility deadline.
How do I vote?
Eligible voters will receive a secure electronic ballot by email from AssociationVoting.
