DEADLINE: Pulitzer Prize Books and Journalism Competitions

Event Date:
January 27, 2025

The Pulitzer Prizes, established in 1917, are awarded annually in journalism, books and other categories.

Books
The recommended entry deadline for books published in the first half of 2024 is July 15, 2024. The final deadline for all eligible books published in 2023, including those slated for publication in the final quarter of the year, is October 15, 2024.

Journalism
Journalism entries: Any person may submit material to the Pulitzer Prize competition, including editors, journalists or members of the public. There are 15 journalism categories. To be eligible for consideration, work must have appeared in a regularly published U.S. newspaper, magazine, wire service or news site. Deadline is Jan 27, 2025.

There are 23 Pulitzer categories. In 22 of those categories the winners receive a $15,000 cash award and a certificate. Only the winner in the Public Service category of the Journalism competition is awarded a gold medal. The Public Service Prize is always awarded to a news organization, not an individual, although an individual or a team may be named in the citation.
