IRE DBEI Symposium

Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) is hosting its second-annual symposium online on October 20 & 21 focusing on diversity, belonging, equity and inclusion (DBEI) issues for newsrooms.

Sessions spanning two half days will focus on investigating inequality in our communities, from policing to elections, as well as on newsroom diversity issues like management and newsroom culture.

The symposium will take place from noon to 4 p.m., Eastern U.S. time to allow for participation across the United States and around the world. Training sessions will be recorded and made available to attendees for later viewing. Attendees also will have access to on-demand technical skills training videos.

SEJ Panel
The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) is hosting a panel, "The Work of Environmental Journalists of Color in Reframing the Beat," on Fri Oct 21 from Noon-1:00 p.m. ET. Speakers include SEJ board president Sadie Babits, board member Rico Moore and members Gloria Gonzalez and Bernardo Motta.

Fellowships & Scholarships
Applications are due September 23, 2022

DBEI Symposium fellowships are available for the following communities:

  • Journalists, students and educators of color
  • Women who are early-career (three years or less) or students
  • U.S.-based journalists and independent journalists

Fellowships include:

  • One-year IRE membership/renewal ($25-70 value)
  • Complimentary conference registration ($50-150 value)
