Meet SEJ member Jackie Flynn Mogensen! Jackie is a reporter for Mother Jones, covering climate, the environment and the politics of science. In her health and science coverage, Jackie has written investigative features on endangered species conservation, the trade of research primates and workplace issues in academia. She also reports on new scientific studies, crafts health and science Q&As and writes columns on topics such as climate change, vaccines, recycling and the peer-review system. Before coming to Mother Jones, Jackie earned a master’s degree in environmental communication from Stanford University and interned at the San Francisco Chronicle, where she wrote about health, science and the cannabis industry. In 2024, she earned a Schmidt Award for Excellence in Science Communication. She lives in Queens, New York. Jackie is also a member of the National Association of Science Writers (NASW) and Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE).
When asked how SEJ membership makes her job easier, Jackie said, "I attended my first SEJ conference this year.
