#SEJSpotlight: Max Chesnes, Reporter, Tampa Bay Times

#SEJSpotlight graphic for Max Chesnes

Meet SEJ member Max Chesnes! Max is the environment reporter for the Tampa Bay Times, where he reports on water quality, environmental justice, obscure Florida wildlife and everything in between. Prior to working for the Times, he covered environmental issues for Treasure Coast Newspapers and the USA Today network, where he focused on Lake Okeechobee, the Everglades and the Indian River Lagoon in Florida. He is 2023 energy journalism fellow at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy. Max is also licensed to fly drones, and he is increasingly incorporating his aerial work into his storytelling.

When asked how SEJ makes his job easier, Max said, "I wouldn't be where I'm at in my career without SEJ's guidance. After attending the annual SEJ conferences in Flint, Fort Collins and Houston, I am a far more confident environmental reporter with a wealth of data tools, sources and resources at my disposal — and it's all thanks to SEJ."
