DEADLINE: Migration in Changing Climates — A PLAYA + PRAx + Spring Creek Project Fellowship

Event Date:
May 15, 2026

PLAYA, PRAx and Spring Creek Project are excited to be partnering for a new year-long interdisciplinary fellowship: Migration in Changing Climates.

Eight fellows from a variety of disciplines (including visual art, writing, philosophy, ethics, performing arts, sound, and multidisciplinary genres) will each complete a project that engages with the vital topic of migration — of birds, mammals, plants and/or people — across landscapes undergoing rapid change in the Pacific Northwest and Great Basin.

Fellows will receive:

  • $3,000 honorarium

  • Four-night cohort orientation at PLAYA in the remote, high desert landscape of Lake County, Oregon

  • An additional individual residency at PLAYA during the year

  • Connections with researchers and research that might inform their project

  • A culminating opportunity for public presentation at PRAx at Oregon State University

Individual and collaborative applications are accepted. Those whose work is informed by lived experience, cultural knowledge or long-term engagement with place, including Indigenous, rural and historically underrepresented communities, are encouraged to apply.

PLAYA, Spring Creek Project, and PRAx all seek to integrate the arts, humanities and sciences to illuminate environmental change and our ethical relationship to the natural world. With this fellowship we hope to support work that helps us imagine new ways of understanding migration, not only as a biological process, but as a shared story of survival, adaptation and interdependence.
