DEADLINE: RJI Professional Innovation Fellowships

Event Date:
January 8, 2027

The Reynolds Journalism Institute invites proposals from individuals and organizations who wish to build practical and innovative resources for community-centered news, journalists and the communities they serve.

All fellowship projects are built, tested and launched to the public within the span of the fellowship and must be free, accessible and open-source for journalists, newsrooms and the public to utilize.

Whatever your idea, it will be built, tested and launched to be utilized by other news organizations, journalists and the people who depend on them by the end of your fellowship. You will publish articles, build fundraising strategy, create social logo & branding standards, host webinars and other public facing deliverables to share what you’re learning for newsrooms and journalists, prepare for launch and ensure the long-term sustainability of your tool. When launched your tool will need to be immediately available to any journalist in the US to utilize (global is great too!) and free to use. Tools/resources/platforms focused on only one state or city are unlikely to be funded.

The final deliverable of your fellowship will be a publicly available resource that journalists and newsrooms can utilize – whether it’s a tool, platform, or workshop.

Applications for the 2027 RJI Professional Innovation Fellowships will open on November 2 and close on January 8th.
