Oil-Waste Permits Challenged at Louisiana Site

"GRAND BOIS -- Grand Bois residents called for more testing of the air, water and soil around an oil-waste storage and treatment site Tuesday night as they gathered to protest the company’s latest permit applications.

The state Department of Environmental Quality led a public hearing in Grand Bois as U.S. Liquids seeks to renew its water-runoff permit and obtain its first-ever air-quality permit.

The company has stored oilfield waste in open pits near the Terrebonne-Lafourche border since it bought the site from Campbell Wells in the early 1990s. "
