SEJ Annual Conferences

SEJ's annual conference brings together journalists, scientists, government officials, advocacy leaders and others to explore the many facets of environmental stories in order to improve the quality and accuracy of environmental reporting. Annual conferences are open to both SEJ members and those who are not members.

Each conference presents an opportunity to meet with other journalists, sit in on training writing and computer workshops, attend panel sessions where current issues are debated by experts, policy-makers and experienced reporters from all types of media. The annual conference also takes journalists out into the field, with full-day or half-day tours to environmental hotspots where issues may be explored on site with experts on hand to present sides and answer questions.

Protocols for SEJ Annual Conferences (how to get your proposal considered):

  • For SEJ members. We need your ideas for plenaries and panels! You're welcome to submit a proposal, which should include topic, brief description, and speaker ideas. You do not need to confirm speakers in advance. If your proposal is accepted and you are confirmed as an organizer/moderator, you'll be responsible for recruiting a diverse and inclusive panel of speakers. The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, November 19.  Have questions? Check out these tips for submitting panel proposals.
  • For non-members.

RFP — Hosts and Sponsors for SEJ Annual Conferences 2024 and 2025

SEJ is looking for two enthusiastic hosts (one each for 2024 and 2025) that share SEJ’s mission for improving public understanding of environmental issues. Bring journalists and newsmakers to your campus, from throughout the U.S., Canada and many other countries, and showcase your top faculty and relevant research. SEJ’s comprehensive and nonpartisan agenda of education and news-making activities leads to considerable news coverage and great appreciation for the intellectual and financial contributions of hosts. Click here for the Request for Proposals.

Thank you to our conference co-chairs over the years!
