    SEJ regrets to announce that biweekly publication of the TipSheet will be suspended after the next issue pending renewal of adequate funding.There is some chance the TipSheet may be reinvented. In order for this to happen, it will help if you let us know what you did and didn't like about the TipSheet.

  • SacBee Wins Access to Forest-Fire Documents [5]

    A federal judge ruled that once the documents — depositions of US Forest Service employees about a 2007 forest fire in California that burned tens of thousands of acres — had been entered into court records as part of the evidence discovery process, they were presumptively public records and had to remain that way.

  • Memos Confirm BP Hid Early Spill Estimates [10]

    Internal BP corporate memos dating back to the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon blowout show that the company was concerned about a spill rate much higher than what it publicly estimated at the time. The memos were released as part of federal court proceedings.

  • SEJ Urges EPA Press Office To Open up Agency Info to News Media [11]

    On January 27, 2012, SEJ wrote to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, after unreturned phone calls and ignored emails, in an attempt to get the agency to resume quarterly conference calls to discuss access issues and the run-around SEJ members endure when trying to do their jobs.

  • New US Strategy for Coping with Climate Change Open for Comment [23]

    NOAA, the USFWS, and the NY State Dept. of Environmental Conservation (representing all state and wildlife agencies) released on Jan. 19, 2012, a draft of the first national strategy for responding to climate change effects on plants, fish and wildlife. The public comment period is open until March 5, 2012, and public meetings and a webinar will occur until Feb. 22, 2012.
