"Nuclear Chief: Safety Moves Behind Schedule" [7]

"Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko said Tuesday the agency wasn't on pace to meet its own timeline for improving safety at U.S. nuclear plants in response to the meltdown at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant a year ago."

"The NRC will soon issue its first orders in response to the Fukushima accident, but it is also weighing a host of regulatory changes that could impose extra costs on the operators of the 104 reactors in the U.S."

"From Japan, Bearing Witness in Debate Over Indian Point" [10]

As the anniversary of the 2011 Japanese nuclear power plant disaster nears, the question is asked: would a disaster at Indian Point nuclear power station -- 38 miles north of New York City -- be any less likely? Any less catastrophic? Are plans for preventing or responding to a catastrophe any less realistic?

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Regulatory Information Conference [19]

The NRC's annual conference in Rockville, MD, taking place a week after the one-year anniversary of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi disaster, presents an excellent opportunity for story angles and leads. The NRC strongly encourages interested members of the media, particularly video crews, to register online by Feb. 28. Onsite registration will also be available during the RIC but could have a wait time.

"Nuclear Safety, Costs Loom Over OK'd Reactors" [26]

"The nuclear industry is celebrating the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission's decision to give the go-ahead for a utility company to build two new nuclear reactors in Georgia, the first license to be granted for a new reactor in the U.S. since 1978. But last year's accident at reactors in Fukushima, Japan, still clouds the future of nuclear power, as does the cost of new power plants."
