More Than 1/3 of US Hunts, Fishes, or Watches Wildlife

August 29, 2007

The US Fish and Wildlife Service released on Aug. 9, 2007, a preliminary report on participation in hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching.

The report, which is published about every five years and is scheduled to be finalized in November 2007, is useful for data on both broad trends and state-by-state nitty-gritty on topics such as percentage and total number of participants in each activity, demographics of the participants, and dollars spent. The huge differences among the states in these characteristics and trends likely have a strong link with variations in local environmental attitudes, politics, and government and non-government organization actions.
