Do Mainstream Media Disclose "Experts'" Links to Oil and Gas Industry?

The so-called "experts" often quoted in major media stories on energy often have ties to fossil-fuel industry groups — yet too often the stories fail to disclose such links, which might call into question the experts' objectivity.

The Checks and Balances Project, an energy watchdog group, did an analysis of coverage in 60 publications over a five-year period. It found references to the funding of the groups with which the experts were affiliated only six percent of the time.
