"Computer model shows region hit 57% of 2025 goal, with uneven progress among states"
"The leaders of the Chesapeake Bay cleanup have officially missed another deadline for achieving their nutrient-reduction targets needed to meet the estuary’s water-quality goals — the third time that’s happened in as many tries.
News of the missed deadline didn’t come out of the blue. State and federal leaders of the Chesapeake Bay Program acknowledged years ago that the effort would fall short before time ran out at the end of 2025.
But the Aug. 6 release of new computer model results confirms it. And the release serves as a critical inflection point, presenting in bare numbers exactly how much progress was made — and how much wasn’t. Overall, the data shows that the region met and surpassed its goal for reducing sediment pollution, but it missed the mark widely for nutrient pollution."
