Center For Public Integrity Gets SPJ Prize For Superfund Probe

July 17, 2008

Leaked documents, FOIA requests, and databases were the raw material for a prize-winning project by a Center for Public Integrity team that revealed numerous weak links in EPA's Superfund hazardous waste cleanup program.

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) gave the Sigma Delta Xi award to "Wasting Away: Superfund's Toxic Legacy," a multifaceted investigative project that was a year in the making.

The project team included Alex Knott, Kevin Bogardus, Anupama Narayanswamy, and Joaquin Sapien, as well as numerous CPI staff.
