"SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A North Carolina environmental group has filed a lawsuit asking the state to order Chemours to immediately halt all discharges of GenX.

The Chapel Hill-based Southern Environmental Law Center filed the suit Friday in New Hanover County Superior Court, according to a news release. The suit, filed on behalf of Cape Fear River Watch, calls on the N.C. Department of Enviornmental Quality to use its authority to stop all emissions of GenX and related chemical compounds at the Fayetteville Works plant, which is about 100 miles upstream from Wilmington.

According to the release, on June 15 DEQ denied Cape Fear River Watch’s request for a declaratory ruling asking the state to order a halt to emissions from the Chemours’ plant."
