"Amish Oppose Use Of Drilling 'Brine' Wastewater On Roads" [1]

"RUSSELL, Pa. — There are 44 miles of dirt roads in rural Farmington Township, Warren County, hard against the New York state line, and it’s not uncommon to see horse-drawn Amish buggies clip-clopping up and down them. In summer, Amish children walk the roads barefoot. It’s also not uncommon over the last decade to see tanker trucks spraying and spreading thousands of gallons of salty “brine,” wastewater from gas and oil well drilling, onto those same roads."

"Measure in Florida That Claims to Back Solar Power May Discourage It" [16]

"Florida’s biggest electric utility companies are backing a proposed constitutional amendment that, the campaign says, 'promotes solar in the Sunshine State.' Not so: If Florida voters approve the ballot measure, it could pave the way for utilities to raise fees on solar customers and cast a heavy cloud over the future of rooftop solar energy in Florida."

You Aren't Allowed To Know How Much of Your Coal Is Being Sold (Cheap?) [32]

The vast coal seams below federally owned lands in the West are a resource owned by the American people as a whole — and when rights to mine them are sold to coal companies, it is supposed to be on terms that are in the public interest. So you'd think public scrutiny via open information would be a given. The Interior Department says not, recently denying a FOIA request for this information. Image: © Clipart.com [33].
