The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival seeks submissions for its 20th annual event, Feb 17-26, 2023. Open to non-fiction films and videos of all genres, subject matter, lengths and production dates. Cash prizes. 2021 deadlines: Jul 15 (early); Sep 11 (regular); Oct 7, 2022 (final).

DEADLINE: Scuba Diving Field Trip Offered by ORCA During the SEJ Conference in Miami. REGISTER BY OCTOBER 14th. [12]

Join marine biologist Dr. Sarah Frias-Torres, Ocean Research & Conservation Association (ORCA) fellow, and invited speaker at the SEJ conference, as she dives to film and study the goliath groupers. This trip is organized by Dr. Frias-Torres and is independent from the SEJ conference and outside the official program. However, to facilitate logistics, the fieldtrip is planned for Thursday October 20, which coincides with the conference official day tours. REGISTER BY OCTOBER 14th.

NAHJ Panel: Galápagos: Challenges for the Evolution of Journalism in the Islands Darwin Made Famous [20]

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists is convening a panel in Miami, during SEJ's 21st Annual Conference, on the Galápagos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site standing at a critical crossroad. This panel of Latino journalists, including residents of the archipelago, will explore the need to create professional and uncensored media outlets and help Galapagueños become better informed about what’s at stake. The United Nations Climate Change Conference, Durban 2011, will bring together representatives of the world's governments, international organizations and civil society. The discussions will seek to advance, in a balanced fashion, the implementation of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol, as well as the Bali Action Plan, agreed at COP (association of all the countries that are Parties to the Convention) 13 in 2007, and the Cancun Agreements, reached at COP 16 last December.
