DEADLINE: IJNR Workshop on Traditional Ecological Knowledge

Event Date:
May 25, 2022

The Institute for Journalism and Natural Resources will host a two-day, three-night workshop on Traditional Ecological Knowledge in the Great Lakes, from June 26-28, 2022, beginning and ending in Duluth, Minn. The workshop will include excursions to visit with and learn from tribal resource managers and their federal, state and academic counterparts. Participants will see firsthand how both ancient knowledge and new research are shaping our relationship with the Great Lakes and the lands around them.

Join us as we learn how Traditional Ecological Knowledge is informing conservation and restoration efforts, climate adaptation strategies, and the latest science on water quality, as well as how journalists can report on these efforts with sensitivity and accuracy. Apply by May 25.

We will select up to 15 applicants who represent diversity in geography, outlet, race, gender, experience, and journalistic medium. Priority will be given to journalists of color.

IJNR covers all program expenses (food, lodging, local travel) during workshops. Attendees are responsible for getting themselves to and from Duluth.
