Lewis M. Branscomb Science and Democracy Forum-Sept 19th, 25th

Event Date:
September 19, 2012 to September 25, 2012

Join the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) Center for Science and Democracy for a free forum on barriers to citizen access to governmental scientific information. Attend the symposium via webcast or in person at the Newseum from 8:30 to Noon EDT. As space is limited, people who registered for the symposium before September 12 will receive first priority. The event is co-sponsored by the First Amendment Center.

The symposium was preceded by a webinar on September 19th to highlight the consequences of inadequate access to government scientific information and recent attempts to restrict access. The webinar featured reporter Joe Davis from the Society of Environmental Journalists and Daniel Schuman from the Sunlight Foundation.

In addition, in a conference call to be held on Monday, September 24, at 7:00 p.m. EDT, UCS will introduce Dr. Andrew Rosenberg, the new director of the its Center for Science and Democracy, and provide insight as to how the new center plans to address the challenge of access to government data.

Register here for all components of the series.

Newseum symposium speakers include:

  • The Honorable John Porter, Research!America Chair and former representative (R-IL)
  • Representative Ed Markey (D-MA)
