"Coal: Another Midwest Utility Outlines Plan To Slash Emissions"

"Another large Midwest utility yesterday announced plans to slash carbon emissions and eliminate coal from its fuel mix by 2040.

Jackson, Mich.-based Consumers Energy said it will reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent from 2008 levels by 2040 and plans to get 40 percent of its generation from renewables and energy storage by then.

"Our actions speak louder than words and we have a track record of doing more than is required," CEO Patti Poppe said in a statement. She said the company has already cut CO2 by 38 percent and reduced water and solid waste, as well.

Clean energy advocates applauded the announcement."
