Energy Dept. Takes Reins at Bonneville Power Authority After Scandal

"The Energy Department is tightening its control over the Bonneville Power Administration in the wake of a scandal over BPA's illegal hiring practices."

"In a memo to senior BPA officials yesterday, Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel Poneman outlined a new pecking order, directing the agency's human resources and General Counsel offices to report directly to DOE's Washington, D.C., headquarters.

The move has prompted some congressional concern over whether DOE is going too far in its eagerness to right the wrongs outlined in a scathing inspector general report earlier this month. That report found that BPA had discriminated against military veterans and violated federal hiring practices for years."
