"Wind-Energy Production Credit Breezes Into Tax ‘Extenders’ Bill"

"A tax credit for wind-energy production made it after all into a Senate bill that would revive a host of expired breaks for numerous industries.

The credit wasn’t originally included in the bill released by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat. The committee is holding a session Thursday to amend the legislation, which would also need to be approved by the House. The committee may vote as soon as Thursday afternoon on the bill, but analysts say they don’t expect final action from Congress until after the Nov. 4 midterm elections.

Supporters of wind energy including Iowa Republican Charles Grassley and Colorado Democrat Michael Bennet said Wyden accepted their amendment to extend the wind-energy production tax credit for two years. Grassley said a 'strong, vibrant' renewable sector is positive for job-creation and Bennet echoed that, saying 'the wind PTC is an economic engine in Colorado that supports thousands of jobs.'"
