"Sunburst Gasoline Cleanup Grows Bigger and Murkier" [6]

EPA: Most US Residents Exposed to Excessive Air Pollution Risk [9]

'Carbon Black' Report Shows Impacts On Native Americans [13]

An effort to document the lives of Oklahoma Indians introduced reporter Vicki Monks to a story that begged to be told: how a carbon black plant affected the health of a neighboring Ponca Indian community.

Carbon black, made by the burning of waste oil, is used primarily to strengthen the rubber in tires.

Ameren Plans Huge Cleanup in Galesburg, IL [41]

"AmerenIP hopes to begin a massive environmental clean-up at the former site of McCabe Scrap Iron & Materials Co. [in Galesburg, Ill.,] by September or October. Galesburg Gas Light & Coke Co. produced gas beginning in 1861 at the 3-acre site, with coal tar as a waste product."

Contaminated Kansas Ghost Town [43]
