Will Thousands of Orphan Wells Be Safely Plugged? [10]

Abandoned oil and gas wells are found in significant numbers in some 27 states. Reporters who want to track their status can dig into several databases, but will need to support their data crunching with lots of shoe-leather and ground-truth reporting. Reporter’s Toolbox has insights into what the databases offer. Plus, a primer on API numbers.

"Climate Change Is Fueling More Conflict Between Humans And Wildlife" [32]

"Wildfires pushing tigers towards Sumatran villages. Drought prodding elephants into African cropland. Hotter ocean temperatures forcing whales into shipping lanes. Humans and wildlife have long struggled to harmoniously coexist. Climate change is pitting both against each other more often, new research finds, amplifying conflicts over habitat and resources."

SEJ Future Council [48]

March 2, 2023 — We are excited to formally launch SEJ's Future Council. This fundraising initiative will provide financial support for SEJ's efforts to increase and improve environmental journalism. Funds raised by SEJ from individuals are critical to supporting SEJ programs, such as diversity fellowships to attend our annual conference, story grants for reporters, training opportunities for members and many other benefits. The financial support provided by the Future Council will help SEJ to expand these programs, enable new programs and support the long-term stability of the organization.
