The James Aronson Awards annually honor original, written reporting that brings to light widespread injustices, their human consequences, underlying causes, and possible reforms. The Awards also include a companion Cartooning with a Conscience award. Deadline is Mar 18, 2019.

Sponsored by the Society for News Design and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, this annual competition recognizes excellence in news design, graphics and photography. Extended deadline is Feb 28, 2025.

Sponsored by the National Press Foundation, this award offers a $2,500 prize and citation for best analysis, commentary or reporting on energy, natural resources and the environment to a US-based journalist. Deadline is Mar 3, 2025.

The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University is accepting nominations until Jan 21, 2026, for work encouraging fairness in news coverage by American journalists and news organizations. Winner receives $10,000; second and third receive $1,000.

Jan 19 is the extended deadline for the next round of SEJ's Fund for Environmental Journalism story grants. Journalism projects must cover the clean energy transition in the U.S. Grants up to $5000; stipends up to $2500 for nonprofit news staffers or freelancers.

The Associated Press and Google offer a national scholarship program intended to foster digital and new media skills in student journalists. The Online News Association, the world’s largest membership organization of digital journalists, administers the program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens at least 18 years old. Feb 8, 2013 deadline.
