"The U.S. wind industry's chief trade group released its first estimate of the impact of the new coronavirus yesterday, finding that almost a third of U.S. industry jobs and $43 billion in industry investments could be endangered from the pandemic.
As much as 25 gigawatts' worth of projects also are threatened, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) said. Currently the wind industry employs more than 114,000 workers, and 35,000 of those jobs are "at risk," AWEA said.
In comparison, 25 GW is more than half of all U.S. wind projects under construction or in advanced development, according to AWEA's last quarterly report in January.
Rural areas in particular are expected to lose out on tax revenues and payments to local landowners totaling as much as $8 billion, the group added."
