"Air Pollution: Sparks Likely At Hearing on New Source Review Bill

"The last time Jeff Holmstead and John Walke sat at the same congressional witness table, they tangled vigorously over an industry-backed proposal to overhaul EPA's New Source Review program.

A rematch looms tomorrow morning [Wednesday].

The two men are set to testify at a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing on newly introduced legislation, S. 2662, that would make it easier for businesses to avoid NSR permitting requirements for major upgrades to power plants, paper mills and other facilities.

Holmstead, an industry lawyer who served as EPA air chief during part of George W. Bush's administration, can be expected to back the bill. Walke, clean air director for an environmental group, is sure to oppose it. Also testifying will be a top Kentucky environmental official."
