"Demanding Flint Money, Senate Dems Stop Energy Bill"

"WASHINGTON — On two separate votes Thursday, Democrats in the U.S. Senate blocked a comprehensive energy bill marked for passage, insisting that hundreds of millions of dollar in aid be added to address the Flint water crisis.

U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, Michigan Democrats, have been pressing for an amendment to the bill for as much as $400 million in matching funds for infrastructure repairs and another $200 million for the creation of a center to study the effects of high levels of lead in the Flint water on children.

But when several Republicans balked at that proposal and rejected a compromise for less, saying adequate funds weren't available, Democrats refused to move ahead with the bill, defeating it on key procedural votes."
