"EPA has decided against imposing new regulations to help prevent chemical spills from industrial facilities from reaching the nation's waterways.
The decision is being roundly slammed by environmental groups, many of which had sued the agency in an attempt to force new regulations.
But the agency writes in a proposed rule that it has decided that the "existing framework of EPA regulatory requirements serves to prevent" toxic spills.
In a statement, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt said new regulations would be "duplicative and unnecessary.""
