Manufacturing Plants Are Source of Drugs in Waterways [1]

Wastewater treatment plants can't mitigate the problem, which is compounded by other sources of water contamination, such as drugs that end up in landfills or flushed down toilets, and metabolites or unutilized drugs that pass through people who take the drugs.

"Federal Funding Cuts Leave Oceanographers, Spill Responders in Dark" [12]

Jane Lubchenco, the administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), told reporters yesterday that funding cuts in recent years for instrumental ocean observation programs have left scientists trying to track the movement of spilled oil partly in the dark.

"Advocates: Upper Delaware Most Endangered US River" [20]

The conservation group American Rivers released its list of the 10 most endangered American rivers. It ranks as most-threatened the Upper Delaware River, threatened by natural gas wells that use hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking."

Rig Survivors Detained Until They Signed Statements [24]

Deepwater Horizon explosion survivors were detained at sea for 36 to 40 hours and prevented from talking to families or going home until they signed two statements, one that they'd not been injured and the other that they'd not witnessed the explosion.
