Access To Agency Scientists Shrinks. Congress May Change That [9]

"Bobby Magill knows all too well the challenge of getting a federal agency scientist on the phone for an interview on deadline.... 'I've been told by researchers there that they are not allowed to talk to press without prior authorization from D.C.,' he said."

SEJ Signs on to RCFP/News Media Coalition Letter to US EPA [17]

SEJ joined the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and 37 other news media organizations in signing a July 9, 2019, letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency arguing against its proposed changes to Freedom of Information Act regulations. The coalition's letter contends that EPA should allow comments and revisions to its updated FOIA policy, and followed SEJ's own letter to the EPA on June 26. "AP Fact Check: Trump And An Eco Legacy Not His Own" [20]

"President Donald Trump and his aides this past week celebrated an environmental legacy that is not theirs to claim. In large measure, the progress they cited pre-dates Trump’s presidency. And in some of the particulars, they were wrong. For example, the air is not cleaner under Trump."

The Environment For Reporters Covering EPA Just Got A Lot More Toxic [23]

"While the Trump administration is not known for velvety smooth relations with the news media, federal agencies are far more likely to ignore reporters than to officially scold them. Not the EPA. Reporters whom the agency deems to have misreported can expect to hear about it, and not just through a polite phone call or an email requesting a correction."
