"Quake Raises Safety Concerns as US Nuclear Plant Shut" [18]

"The largest earthquake to hit the East Coast of the United States in 67 years raised concerns on Tuesday about the safety of the country's nuclear power plants. The 5.8 magnitude quake's epicenter was just a few miles from the two-reactor North Anna nuclear power plant operated by Dominion Resources in Mineral, Virginia, 80 miles southwest of Washington."

DEADLINE: IRP Reporting Trip to Kazakhstan [29]

The International Reporting Project is accepting applications until June 14th from U.S. journalists for a media reporting trip to Kazakhstan, a huge but little-known Asian country whose government has been active in global nuclear nonproliferation talks. The trip, August 3-14, 2013, is a unique opportunity to visit a key country of 17 million persons bordering Russia and China.
