These annual awards celebrate and encourage outstanding investigative and public service reporting in South Florida and to foster a community that cares deeply about local news. $10,000 first prize, $5,000 second prize, and honorable mentions at $1,000. Nominations due Feb 12, 2024.

Carter Journalism Institute offers a grant of $12,500 to support the work of a promising early-career nonfiction writer on a story that uncovers truths about the human condition, especially for a project that otherwise would not come to fruition. This Council for the Advancement of Science Writing award honors the late science journalist Sharon Begley (pictured, left) by recognizing and supporting journalists who exemplify excellence in covering science for the public. It will be held in conjunction with the virtual 2022 AAAS Annual Meeting, and you must sign in as a meeting registrant (it's free to attend the award ceremony). Please register in advance.

InquireFirst will award $3,000USD and editorial support to a journalist in Latin America for a project on the impact of infrastructure (hydroelectric dams, international highways, mining and energy, etc.) on the biodiversity of the Andes-Amazon region. Deadline is Jan 28, 2022.

The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY is offering a full-tuition scholarship in partnership with the Native American Journalists Association for any NAJA member admitted to a Master’s program at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and who meets CUNY’s eligibility requirements for being a New York State Resident. These awards honor U.S. investigative reporting that promotes more effective and ethical conduct of government, the making of public policy or the practice of politics, and explanatory reporting that focuses on the functioning of government and the implementation of public policy. The Aspen Tech Policy Hub is accepting applications for unique and innovative projects that address the crisis of mis- and disinformation in America. Semi-finalists will be awarded $5,000, and a grand prize of $75,000 will be awarded to the winner. Apply by Jan 10, 2022.
