The National Park Service has been documenting the acoustic environment in National Parks for years. But in addition to the sounds of nature --  Coyotes in Colorado, a hummingbird in Washington State, elk from Sand Dunes National Park -- the microphones also capture the sounds of civilization -- such as sirens.

Implications of EPA's Coal Ash Rule on Regulated Entities and the Environment [6]

On December 19, 2014, EPA’s Administrator signed the first ever federal rule regulating the disposal of coal ash, determining it should be regulated as a solid waste. The Environmental Law Institute invites you to Washington, DC (or via teleconference) for an in-depth examination of the final coal ash rule. Judge Dismissses Wetlands Damage Suit Against Oil, Gas Companies [22]

"A federal judge on Friday (Feb. 13) dismissed a controversial wetlands damage lawsuit filed by the east bank levee authority against more than 80 oil, gas and pipeline companies, ruling that the authority failed to make a valid claim against the energy firms."

Local Authority Slaps Permits, Fees on Photography in Parks [40]

Professional photojournalists may again be facing unconstitutional requirements for permits to work in public parks — this time at the county level in a well-heeled District of Columbia suburb. But Virginia's Fairfax County Park Authority is encountering pushback as they conduct an annual review of their fee policies at various park units.
