DEADLINE: Fellowships for Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development [1]

Internews' Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and O Eco have developed a Fellowship program to bring journalists to the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, to be held June 20-22, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Apply by April 25th.

DEADLINE: Travel Fellowships for The Ocean in a High-CO2 World [13]

The Third International Symposium on the Ocean in a High CO2 World (OHCO2W) takes place September 24-27, 2012 in Monterey, Cal. Scientists, experts, decision-makers, and ocean advocates from around the world will gather to discuss the latest research in ocean acidification. Apply by May 1st for a fellowship to cover travel and accommodation costs.

"U.S. Forest Service Spends $40.6 Million for Lands in 15 States" [15]

"WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. Forest Service is investing $40.6 million to acquire 27 pieces of land in 15 states that the agency says will help safeguard clean water, provide recreational access, preserve wildlife habitat, enhance scenic vistas and protect historic and wilderness areas."

"Electric Cars Cheaper To Run, Less Polluting: Report" [19]

"Electric vehicles in the United States save money on fuel and are less polluting than most gasoline-powered vehicles, even in places where electricity is made by burning coal, the Union of Concerned Scientists said in a report released on Monday."

"'Drivers should feel confident that owning an electric vehicle is a good choice for reducing global warming pollution, cutting fuel costs, and slashing oil consumption,' said Don Anair, a senior engineer on UCS's clean vehicles program.

"Natural Oil Seep Caused Gulf Of Mexico Sheen: BSEE" [25]

"An oil sheen in the Gulf of Mexico last week came from a natural sea floor seep and not from Royal Dutch Shell offshore production platforms, the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) said on Monday."

"'A modest amount of oil is being released from a natural sea floor seep previously suspected as the source of an oil sheen reported last week in the Gulf of Mexico,' BSEE said in an emailed news release."

"U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions Headed Up Again" [39]

"After dropping for two years during the recession, emissions of the gases blamed for global warming rose in 2010 as the economy heated up, the Environmental Protection Agency reports.
