Study Suggests Important Tradeoffs for Algae Biofuel [10]

University of Virginia researchers find algae-based biofuel uses more energy and water and emits more greenhouse gases than other biofuel sources. However, algae has a high energy yield, and growing it wouldn't significantly affect food crops.

2008 David Stolberg Meritorious Service Award Winner: Margie Kriz [12]

This annual award recognizes an SEJ member for their exceptional volunteer work. The 2008 Stolberg award goes to Margie Kriz, who has toiled in the SEJ trenches for many years: everything from writing for the SEJournal to serving as an awards judge to being a mentor to helping write the Covering Pollution handbook that SEJ and IRE co-published to organizing numerous conference panels, and often multiple panels at the same conference.

Canada: Nuclear Watchdog Investigates Possible Mass Radiation Exposure [34]
