DEADLINE: $15,000 Mongabay Grant for Latin American Big Industry, Climate Change, and Biodiversity Conservation [9]

Mongabay.org offers grant opportunities every month or two to support in-depth reporting on key environmental themes under a given topic. Top proposal receives a $12,000 stipend and up to $3,000 for reporting and travel costs. Next up: Could the focus on climate overshadow biodiversity in Latin America? If so, what would a low carbon world with impaired biodiversity look like? Apply by Oct 5, 2014.

DEADLINE: Anthony Shadid Award for Journalism Ethics [14]

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Journalism Ethics seeks applications for the first national Anthony Shadid Award for Journalism Ethics. Prize of $1,000 will go to the journalist (or team) for a story or series best exemplifying accountability, independence, reporting in search of truth, and minimization of harm to subjects, sources and the public at large.

ELI Annual Award Dinner [16]

ELI (the Environmental Law Institute) will present the 2013 Environmental Achievement Award to former US Secretary of State George P. Shultz and "green" philanthropist Thomas F. Steyer to recognize their outstanding leadership to reduce climate change and advance clean energy. The Award will be presented to Shultz and Steyer at ELI’s annual dinner on Tuesday evening, October 22 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
