The Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications at the University of South Florida annually recognizes distinguished examples of reporting and commentary about environmental issues in Florida with a $1,000 award. Deadline: Aug 15, 2025.

The Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources will provide grants up to $15,000 USD for reporting projects on Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) in Canada, with a particular focus on marine areas. Open to all journalists; projects led by or including Indigenous journalists are strongly encouraged. Deadline is Mar 29, 2024.

CENTER annually offers awards and grants to photographers and artists around the world for project funding, exhibition in Santa Fe and professional development via the premier juried portfolio review event, the Review Santa Fe Photo Festival. Deadline: Mar 15, 2025.

The David and Helen Gurley Brown Institute for Media Innovation annually provides year-long funding awards of up to $150,000 ($300,000 for teams with members of both the Columbia and Stanford communities). Plus, access to an advisory and mentoring group, and an alumni network. Deadline: Apr 3, 2025.

The Comedy Wildlife Photographer of the Year wins a one-week safari in Kenya and more. Other prizes include NIKON camera kits, camera bags, a specialist website and an iPad. Nine categories include one for video, one for under 16 and one for under 25. Free to enter. Enter by Jun 30, 2025.

The Knight Foundation has launched a three-year, $2 million initiative to help underserved news organizations access more sustainable publishing solutions. In its first year, the program offers a one-time subsidy grant of $20,000 to 25 publishers that can be applied to the adoption or management of a Content Management System (CMS) of their choice. Apply by Mar 8, 2020.

The Solutions Journalism Network offers travel grants of up to $750 to journalists and news organizations based in the Mountain West (Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico) to report on solutions outside their own community. Next deadline: Jan 31, 2020.

ProPublica's Local Reporting Network pays the salary and a stipend for benefits for reporters at news organizations across the country so they can spend a year working on an accountability journalism project of importance to their communities. Next deadline, for five open spots: Apr 14, 2025.
