NICAR's annual conference will be devoted to computer-assisted reporting (CAR). Learn about tools you need to dig deeper into stories and give readers, viewers and your online audience the information they're demanding. The CAR conference offers something for everyone, from beginners to those on the cutting edge of digital reporting. In partnership with IRE, two intensive pre-conference workshops will be offered: "Follow the Money - Companies' Influence on Politics" and "News Camp: From Words to Data and Back."

Speakers will share strategies for locating documents and gaining access to public records, finding the best stories and managing investigations. Join the discussion about how to practice investigative journalism in print, broadcast, Web and alternative newsroom models. Keynote speaker: Jill Abramson. Pre-conference workshop: "Follow the Money - Tracking Companies' Influence on Politics"

UNITY: Journalists of Color, Inc. is a coalition of the four alliances, the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. The 2012 convention will offer numerous education sessions, students projects and networking opportunities, including a job fair and career coaching services.
