Paris Goal Requires Most Fossil Fuel Reserves Must Stay in the Ground

"After a summer of weather extremes that highlighted the urgency of limiting global warming in starkly human terms, new research is clarifying what it will take to do so. In order to have just a 50 percent chance of meeting the most ambitious climate target, the study found, the production of all fossil fuels will need to start declining immediately, and a significant majority of the world’s oil, gas and coal reserves will have to remain underground over the next few decades."

"New York Sets 2035 Zero-Emission Passenger Car Goal"

"New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Wednesday signed into law a bill that sets a goal for all new passenger cars and light-duty trucks to be zero-emission models by 2035, joining the state of California in attempting to eliminate gasoline-powered vehicles."

SEJ's Fund for Environmental Journalism Awards $57,332 to Support Stories on Environmental Justice and Religion-Environment Connections

Sep 20, 2021 — The Fund for Environmental Journalism awarded $57,332 for 12 projects selected through the Spring 2021 round of competition, all for stories about underrepresented communities. More than 90% tell the story of a local community, ranging from the rubber factories of Akron, Ohio to the sacred groves of Meghalaya, India.
